TV Stand Size Guide: Which Size is Right for Your TV

Did you know that there is an estimated number of 120.6 million TV homes in the US? That’s not a surprise, considering that TVs are almost the inseparable signature pieces of any living room. But when it comes to designing your living room, finding the right TV stand setup isn’t always as easy as finding the right TV.

From choosing the perfect spot to place, the best layout for viewing, to deciding what to do with the wall space behind your TV, or even how to design a living room with a fireplace and TV, these questions can quickly become overwhelming.

However, eventually, all of the questions come down to a single one: what is the right size TV stand for your TV size? In that case, what you need is a correct TV stand size guide, which we, as Doğtaş modern furniture store, will be sharing with you in this post.

TV Stand Size Guide: First Things to Consider

Before buying a random TV unit, you will need to measure your TV. A television’s advertised size may not always be true to how much space it would take up. This is because television dimensions are measured diagonally (instead of horizontally.)

For example, if you see a television with an advertised size of ’50-inch TV’, its television screen is actually 50 inches from the left corner to the top right. Take note that a television’s advertised dimensions only account for the screen. In other words, the size written on the TV box doesn’t include the frame around the screen.

The best thing to do is to take matters into your own hand and measure your tv.

Step 1: Find The Actual Width of Your TV

The first step of our TV stand guide is finding the size of your TV. To figure out the actual width of your television, use a measuring tape and measure out the full width from the left edge to the right edge of the frame. If you don’t have a measuring tape, you can also look up the product details from the manufacturer’s website.

Note that the size of your TV is crucial to buy the best TV stand you need. Otherwise, placing an oversized TV on a television stand that is the same size or smaller than the frame can cause:

Your television fall down in a minor accident
Your living room to look unaesthetic

Step 2: Determine The TV Stand Height

Typically, a TV screen should be positioned at or just below eye level. In fact, there is simple math behind placing your TV in a comfortable position: just measure the distance from the floor to the average sightline of the viewer and subtract half of your TV’s height.

This way, you will find the perfect height for your TV stand which will fall within an inch or two of the difference.

The strongest determiner of the average sightline of the viewer is the sofa you use. See our guide to types of sofas to figure out the type of sofa you’ll match with your TV stand.

Step 3: Look for The Right TV Stand Width

As mentioned before, televisions are measured diagonally while TV consoles are measured horizontally. Therefore, make sure to consider the width of your TV screen when choosing a console. We recommend opting for a TV console that is at least a few inches wider than your television.
